Woton's Wake (1962) **1/2

Naked (1993) **** [CC Night #10]

Recommended if you enjoy sarcastic malicious men, existential dialogue, and/or "taking the piss". *P.S. - The  score for this film is gorgeous.

Diabolique (Les Diaboliques) (1955) ****

"She'll bury us all. Won't you, my little ruin?"

Obsession (1976) ***1/2

I don't care how much De Palma rips off Hitchcock in his films, he does it with such style!

Amélie (Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain) (2001) ****1/2

The Monster Club (1981) ***1/2

Film Noir That I Own

Image
This was inspired by my fir st-time viewing of Kiss Me Deadly tonight. This was a little tough to decide on. Plenty of films are "noirish", but I tried to stick to films that are true examples and not just police procedurals ( Se7en ), gangster/crime flicks ( Scarface , White Heat , etc) or thrillers ( M ), psychological or otherwise. But then I put things in there like  Dillinger and Dark Passage . I avoided overly Sci-fi movies like   Blade Runner and Dark City . But I did decide to include Sin City because I feel it adheres most to noir, of its influences. Noir is funny like that; it's hard to pinpoint what it is exactly and people have different opinions about what it is and what films qualify, but here's what I decided on: Note: A few titles are absent, such as Sunset Boulevard , the DVD of which I sold when the Blu-ray was announced, but there is still no release date. The Killing and Killer's Kiss will be added to the collection next m

Kiss Me Deadly (1955) ****

One bleak and bizarre noir.

Something Wild (1986) ***

This movie made me smile. It seems to have two distinct halves though. The beginning is very breezy. The latter half turns very serious, with little overlap in between. Great soundtrack and fun performances. A good blind buy.

Hearts Of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse (1991) ****1/2

Finally got around to watching this. Penetrating, unflinching, and powerful. "Absolutely goddamn right."

Deep Red (Profondo Rosso) - Theatrical Version (1975) ****1/2

My favorite Argento film and my favorite giallo.   Also, Goblin's score kicks enormous amounts of derriere.

True Grit (2010) ***

True Grit is good, but not as good as everyone says, imo. I feel like I'm obligated to love this film because it's the Coens , stars Jeff Bridges ,   and it's a western. I do enjoy it (this was my second time watching it), but it's not a great western. Honestly, it's not all that different from the 1969 film in many ways (much of the dialogue is identical), except for a few Coen -esque scenes. As far as modern westerns go, I enjoy The Proposition , 3:10 To Yuma ,  Appaloosa and The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford  more.

Samurai Rebellion (1967) ***1/2 [CC Night #9]

Image
Recommended if you enjoy rebellious samurai (duh), angry Japanese men, and/or all the action in a film to be at the very end.

The Road (2009) ****

Great film. Sort of overlooked, if you ask me. If you've read and liked the book, I don't see why you wouldn't like the film.

The House With Laughing Windows (1976) ***

A Clockwork Orange (1971) *****
