Jim Thompson "Nothing More Than Murder" (1949) ***

Nothing More Than Murder (1949) is one of Thompson 's earliest novels and easily the weakest one I've read of his yet, but still a good solid hard-boiled crime thriller.

Fun and mostly clever film that should have been 20 minutes shorter. TOTALLY lost me when **SPOILER** the film went all meta and entered the real world (got all schmaltzy and boring).

Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014) **

Image
Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014) is a  Star Wars clone with largely unfunny humor, so-so writing, mostly annoying characters, boring action, predictable plot, cliched/familiar film techniques, too long a running time and a soundtrack comprised of good songs that were used to better effect in numerous previous films. It's certainly not lazy and it looks nice, but I found it unengaging.

Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985) *****

My favorite film of all time. P.W.—loner, rebel "I got some new items you might be interested in." "Fruit, please." "Fork over the money, Bux ton ." "Is there something you can share with the rest of us Amazing Larry?!" "The Alamo! In...the basemenT." "I got a real  bad  temper !" "There was this sound...like a garbage truck...dropped off the Empire State Building." "I'm all alone. I'm rolling a big doughnut and this snake wearing a vest..." "C'mon Simone, let's talk about your big 'but'." "A- doe -be." "Speck!" "I say ya let  me  have him first." "Tequila!!" "Now!  Now! " " You're gonna burn in hell! " "I don't need to see it. I lived it."

The Pee-wee Herman Show On Broadway (2011) ***

I bought the Blu-ray of this show in 2011 when it was released. As far as I can remember I watched it once and really loved it. After rewatching the entirety of PEE-WEE'S PLAYHOUSE via the excellent Shout! Factory BD box set, rewatching the original PEE-WEE HERMAN SHOW (which I love) via the Image Entertainment DVD recently and now rewatching BROADWAY , this pales in comparison. It's still fun, but I had many issues with it.  1. Why was the Pledge Of Allegiance in the beginning? I don't see the relevance.  2. The puppet voices, mostly done by different people than the original performers. I realize this was probably unavoidable but I found the new performers annoying, in particular Magic Screen and Chairry. And Globey!? WTF. They didn't even try to make him sound similar.  3. Paul 's voice. He just doesn't sound much like PW anymore, so it's a bit sad to hear him try.  4. Length. The original PWHS was an hour, perfect. BROADWAY is just under an hour an
